Group A
• Amines are derivatives of NH3 replacing hydrogen by alkyl group or aryl group.
• Amines with –NH2 are called 1o amines.
• Amines with –NH- are called 2o amines.
• Amines with –N- are called 3o amines.
Primary amine (nomenclature)

Group B
These are organic compounds which contain –NH2,
-NH-, -N- groups.
Depending on the replacement of hydrogen by an alkyl group or aryl group they are classified into 1o, 2o and 3o amines.
Nomenclature
1. CH3-CH-CH2-CH3 2-Butanamine

7. C6H5-N-(CH3)2 N,N Diethylbenzanamine
Group C
Amines are the derivative of NH3. It is having sp3 hybridization and has a pyramidal shape with lone pair on the nitrogen atom.
When a hydrogen is replaced by an alkyl group then it is called 1o amine
When 2hydrogen is replaced by 2 alkyl group then they are called 2o amine.
1o amines
1. C2H5-NH2 Ethanamine
2. CH3-CH-CH2-CH3 2-Butanamine

3. (C2H5)2NH N-Ethyl Ethanamine
4. CH3-(CH2)3-NH-CH2-CH3 N-ethyl butanamine
3o amines
5. (CH3)3N N,N –diethyl Methanamine
6. CH3-(CH2)2-N-C2H5 N-Ethyl-N,methyl
CH3 propanamine
Group D
They are the derivative of ammonia formed by the replacement of hydrogen by the alkyl group.
Depending upon this they can be classified as 1o, 2o, 3o amines.
1. C2H5-NH2 Ethanamine
2. CH3-CH-(CH2)2-CH3 2-Pentanamine
